The lesson of travel

The lesson of travel

Wherever we travel, we meet ourselves.

If there is one lesson I have learnt from travel, it is this. People are people all over the world.

Here is Robyn, wife of our tour leader in Iran. She is in a sweet shop across from our hotel and the rather dishy sales assistant is holding a scoop of nuts for her to sample. I love that he’s sneaking a peek at the blonde hair under her hijab. His behaviour is modified by his culture, but he’s like any other man, grabbing a freebie eyeful.

Language, customs, habits may all differ, but underneath the surface, we’re all the same. Connect with that underlying humanity, you’ll be at home anywhere.
